Saint Laurent’s New Summer Bags

I once mused that Saint Laurent was the only major house that ignored the archival revival trend. At the time, it was the truth, with the central argument being that (Yves) Saint Laurent’s bags of the past weren’t extremely memorable or strong enough to warrant a comeback.
While not a direct pull from the archives, the Y Tote utilized the distinct yet more under-the-radar branding of YSL’s iconic DNA. The shape itself modernized past codes, and the oversized, slouchy, relaxed shape of the tote was an instant hit. It also signaled a shift for Vaccarello, whose tenure at Saint Laurent has been defined by a loud luxury approach to bags and branding.
Earlier this year, the Y family expanded, offering the same undeniably distinct ode to the early aughts (who can forget the YSL muse). There were new iterations of the beloved Y Tote and a practical hobo that makes for the perfect daily haul.
Fresh From the Archives
There was also a new bucket bag version, defined by its bold Y detail that also functions as the bag’s chic top handle. Arriving in black and brown, I was immediately drawn to the shape—simple but chic.
The Y Small Bucket recently dropped in canvas with leather trim, which immediately screams summer. I picture this bag carried on a yacht in the South of France or Capri, but I digress.
